For a shop, office or home, the choice usually comes down to AHD or IP cameras. Both can give you a clear picture. They differ in cabling, flexibility and cost.
AHD cameras
AHD cameras send high definition video over coaxial cable to a DVR. They are simple, usually less expensive, and a good fit when you already have coax cable in place and want to upgrade the picture quality without re-cabling.
IP cameras
IP cameras connect to the network, usually over a single Cat6 cable that also provides power. They offer higher resolutions, smarter features and easier expansion, and they can be recorded to an NVR or to storage on your network.
How to choose
If you are starting fresh or expect to add cameras later, IP is normally the better long-term choice. If the budget is tight, the building already has coax, and four to eight cameras will do, AHD is perfectly reasonable.
Do not forget storage
Camera count, resolution and the number of days you want to keep footage decide the hard disk size. Ask your installer to show the calculation instead of quoting a disk size by guesswork.
